Simon’s career in the law was and continues to be driven by a strong interest in and belief for justice. He owes a debt of gratitude to his forbear Thomas Rees the leader of the “Rebecca Riots” in rural West Wales in the 1830’s. His school days were dominated by the Civil Rights movements in the US and Ireland and the liberation struggles in Africa. Graduating from the London School of Economics with a 2.1 Law Degree, soon after qualification he joined the pioneering Legal Aid firm of Peter Soar in Cambridge. From there he set up his own practice which became cb4law which after many years merged with Family Law Group on 1 September 2019.
An accredited member of the Children Panel through the Law Society, Simon specialises in public law Care Proceedings and Wardship, welcoming instructions from parents, other family members and from children themselves or via Guardians ad Litem the court-appointed experts who advise Judges on the welfare and best interests of the child. His practice involves court hearings throughout East Anglia and in the High Court in London.
Simon inspires confidence in his clients for the best outcome available and supports them through the legal process, which for the lay person can be intimidating at times. He believes that everyone has a case to argue and as a lawyer, he has a duty to use his legal knowledge and experience to the maximum. He has an open and calm manner, which reassures his clients, whilst being outgoing and personable.
Outside of his career, Simon is a keen yachtsman and a loyal follower of the Llanelli Scarlets rugby team as well as the national side. He enjoys spending time with his family and loves rock and opera music (the louder the better!)
