Mahbuba is a Trainee Solicitor and joined Family Law Group in September 2017. She works out of our Nottingham office and specialises in private and public law children matters and domestic abuse cases.
Having achieved her LLB with honours at Nottingham Trent University in 2016, she then went on to complete the Legal Practice Course with Masters and graduated in 2017.
Mahbuba achieved an exceptional distinction in the Family and Child Protection elective and was offered a six-month work placement at Family Law Group. During this placement, she was part of the firms’ Civil Legal Advice Line team, offering clients remote telephone assistance with family law matters. She soon progressed to work as part of the children team assisting with private and public law matters.
In September 2019, Mahbuba was awarded a training contract.
Mahbuba is a very compassionate and patient individual. She feels strongly that both of these qualities are important when dealing with clients who are experiencing a very difficult time in their lives and need legal support. She believes it is extremely important that clients do not feel judged on their circumstances and feel comfortable enough to share any concerns they may have with their solicitor.
When asked what skills are important in her role, Mahbuba states that having attention to detail to read and analyse documentation received from professionals and clients alike is important. Being able to adapt your communication skills to the individual client and approaching emotional situations calmly. It is also important to build a rapport with each client.
For Mahbuba, her career in family law allows her to undertake challenges in the areas that interest her. In particular, simplifying complex legal situations for clients and the personal aspect of meeting clients and ensuring their voice is heard.
To further support her legal experience, Mahbuba provides free legal advice at the Mary Potter Centre in Nottingham on a monthly basis. She also attends community workshops in the Nottinghamshire area and offers members of the community guidance on family law matters.
She also writes blog posts on niche areas of family law such as honour-based violence.
Outside of her career, Mahbuba is an avid tennis fan and enjoys attending Wimbledon. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and attending music concerts and the theatre.
