Ben initially trained as a Barrister and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 2005. Following a period of employment as a Legal Advisor within Her Majesty’s Court Service, Ben then decided to cross-qualify and become a Solicitor in 2010.
Having joined Family Law Group in 2010, Ben began specialising in the representation of parents in both Private and Public Law Care proceedings as well acting for the victims of domestic abuse in Injunction applications.
By 2013 Ben had become a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and began regularly representing children in care proceedings, as well as continuing to act for parents in other cases.
Also within 2013, Ben became a member of Resolution (Solicitors Family Law Association) and was made an Associate Solicitor of Family Law Group. He is a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Private Law Children and Domestic Abuse cases.
By 2014 Ben had become the office head of our Derbyshire Family Law branch and a Senior Associate of the firm.
Ben has been involved in a number of complex care proceedings before both the Family Court and High Court, including a number of alleged shaken baby cases, fractures in new-born children, baby fatalities, sexual abuse cases and serious Non-accidental injuries. Ben has also represented parties in High Court Wardship Proceedings and applications under Female Genital Mutilation legislation.
Ben has acted for parents in a number of cases where children have either remained within the family or successfully reunited with their parents.
Outside of care proceedings, Ben has represented parents and children in complex Private Law matters at all levels of the Family Court, including cases of parental alienation and implacable hostility. In domestic abuse matters, Ben has helped many victims of domestic violence secure safe refuge and the protection of the courts.
Ben’s approach to any case is to represent his clients with respect, understanding and without judgement. Ben is dedicated to ensuring that people can exercise their rights and have their cases justly dealt with.
Ben believes that an ability to work effectively under pressure with a forensic analysis of the issues are the key ingredients to a successful legal practice in family law.
Outside of his legal practice, Ben’s time is mostly occupied these days by his wife and young daughter but he also try’s to make time for his first love, rugby.
